Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that Auckland will remain at Alert Level 3 for a short 4-day extension until 11.59pm on Sunday 30 August. From then on, Auckland will move to Alert Level 2. The rest of New Zealand will remain at Alert Level 2.
There is one restriction on Auckland’s move to Alert Level 2. There will continue to be a limit on mass gatherings with groups of no more than 10, with the exception of tangihanga and funerals.
The alert levels for Auckland and the rest of the country will be reviewed again on Sunday 6th September.
The boundary for Alert Level 3 remains the same and is within Auckland’s supercity limits. This is from Wellsford in the north to Pukekohe in the south.
The government has also announced that from Monday 31 August, face-covering are now mandatory on any form of public transport nationwide, and encouraged elsewhere when physical distancing is difficult to maintain.
