One of the most common things our Advisory Team hears is, \u201cDo I need to report this?\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If it&#8217;s a <\/span><b>notifiable<\/b> <b>event<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, you have a legal duty to let the Health and Safety Executive (<\/span><b>HSE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) know under Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (<\/span><b>RIDDOR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) \u2013 Sounds like a lot of paperwork right? Not with HazardCo, our App makes it easy to log an incident or near miss and we&#8217;re here to guide you with what to do next!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Let&#8217;s break down RIDDOR in plain language. It&#8217;s basically the UK&#8217;s system for tracking workplace incidents and near misses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is a notifiable event?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RIDDOR stands for Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations. It&#8217;s the rules about which workplace incidents you need to tell the authorities about.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What needs reporting?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When someone dies in a work incident<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serious injuries like broken bones, amputations, serious burns<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When someone can&#8217;t do their normal job for more than 7 days\u00a0 because of an injury<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work-related illnesses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dangerous occurences that could have been serious e.g. collapse of a structure or scaffolding<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When a visitor or member of the public gets hurt and needs hospital treatment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Who&#8217;s responsible?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manager\/Supervisor<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Self-employed folks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anyone in charge of a workplace<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>When to report?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deaths or serious stuff: pretty quick (reportable within 10 days)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">7 day absences: reportable within 15 days<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Illnesses: once a doctor confirms it<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Near misses: right away<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Why report near misses and incidents?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every time you report an incident or near miss, you\u2019re helping make the site safer. It\u2019s not about pointing fingers \u2014 it\u2019s about learning from what happened and stopping it from happening again. Everyone on-site has the right to know about any risks, and we all play a part in keeping each other safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creating a culture where everyone feels comfortable reporting issues means better communication and fewer surprises.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to report in the App<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s easy:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Open the <\/span><b>HazardCo App<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use the <\/span><b>Report Incident<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> feature<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fill in what happened (photos and details help!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your report is saved in the <\/span><b>Hub<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and kept on file while you\u2019re a HazardCo member<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>What happens next?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The App will prompt you to give us a call if needed. Our Advisory Team gets a copy and will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Check if it\u2019s a notifiable RIDDOR event<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact you if it is notifiable<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Guide you through how to notify HSE and help with any follow-up steps<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Taking photos of the scene, where appropriate<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Completing a <\/span><b>Site Review<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sharing learnings in a <\/span><b>Toolbox Talk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(both available in the App)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Keep records<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You\u2019re legally required to keep these records for <\/span><b>at least 3 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Logging everything in the App means it\u2019s all saved in the Hub, organised and easy to access if you ever need it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No one wants incidents to happen on site, but being prepared makes all the difference.
