Risks change, all day, everyday. That\u2019s the reality of life on site. Managing risk needs to be apart of life onsite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Methods change because of different training and experience, people on the job change, there are differences in machinery and materials used, as well as environmental changes from hour to hour.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a lot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Risk is a product of the work processes being carried out. So, if the work doesn\u2019t happen, the risk isn\u2019t present.<\/span><\/p>\n

But, if a work process is defined then risk can be recognised and taken into account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The key question tradies and supervisors need to be asking themselves is:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I adapt my task when a change occurs?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not about mountains of paperwork. It\u2019s about 4 simple steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Plan<\/b>: Identify and assess the risk<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Do<\/b>: Eliminate or minimise the risk<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Check<\/b>: Monitor the control measures<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Act<\/b>: Review for continuous improvement<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    A change occurs. Repeat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Plan. Do. Check. Act.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

    Repeat.<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    We should all be working towards a heightened sense of awareness on site. And of course, treating risks as priority should be a collective mindset. Reinforced by supervisors who should be adapting plans and guiding teams to take account of the constantly evolving risk environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
