FAQ

What do you mean by “guided” system?

It means the system comes with everything needed for residential building companies. You don’t have to start from scratch or work out what to include. HazardCo provides ready-to-use templates and step-by-step prompts for tasks such as Site Specific Safety Plans, Site Reviews, Risk Assessments, Task Analysis, Toolbox Meetings, and incident reporting.

The App guides your team to identify hazards, choose controls, add photos or notes, and record follow-up actions, helping them complete each task consistently and confidently. y

The HazardCo system is created and kept up to date by real experts (yes real human people).

My building company only does a couple of builds a year, is HazardCo right for me?

As a general rule, HazardCo works best for building companies doing three or more builds per year, as they typically see the most value. That said, it’s more about attitude than business size. If you want to manage safety in the simplest way possible, and you’re committed to safety and will priortise it in your business, then HazardCo can still be right for you.

Is HazardCo just for residential builders?

HazardCo is designed specifically for residential builders, including multi-dwelling projects. All our content (including safety plans, policies, and procedures) is written with New Zealand residential construction in mind.

If you're doing light commercial work like small-scale shops, light commercial renovations, or small developments, HazardCo could also work well for you with some tweaks from the team. Give us a call and we can let you know whether HazardCo will work for your business.

We do 70+ builds a year, is HazardCo right for me?

Absolutely. HazardCo is designed for residential building companies of all sizes, and we have many members completing 70+ builds a year. In some cases, we can even provide additional support. Give us a call to talk through the types of projects you do and your current health and safety processes, and we’ll let you know if HazardCo is a good fit.

Will my teams on site actually use the HazardCo system?

HazardCo is designed to be simple and practical. We genuinely believe it’s one of the easiest ways to meet your health and safety obligations and improve safety on site. Our data shows that thousands of builders and trades actively use HazardCo and are safer because of it. 93% of HazardCo members agree HazardCo makes health and safety simple (2025 Customer Satisfaction Survey). Having a system alone won’t make you safer, it has to be used consistently. Think of it like a gym membership: the equipment can be top-notch, but if you don’t use it, you won’t get any fitter. If you’re committed to safety, willing to lead by example, and prepared to make health and safety part of everyone’s day-to-day work, the HazardCo system will be used on site, and it will make a difference.

My business specialises in renovations and extensions, is HazardCo right for me?

Yes. HazardCo is built specifically for residential construction, which means we’ve designed our system to be as flexible as your projects are. We have a range of Project types available, including Projects for small jobs and renovations. Please give us a call for pricing information.

What do I get as a HazardCo member?

Being a HazardCo member is like having a health and safety team supporting you.

One of the biggest benefits of membership is access to our qualified health and safety specialists. If you’re ever unsure about something, just give us a call and we’ll point you in the right direction. If an incident happens on site, from a near miss to a serious accident, we can guide you through the next steps and help you prevent it from happening again.

The system includes the HazardCo Hub for admin tasks like setting up safety plans, and the HazardCo App for creating safety documents on site, such as Task Analysis (TA), Risk Assessments, Toolbox Meetings, and Site Reviews.

How does the HazardCo system use AI?

We know you need to trust our system and the advice you get:

Verified Advice & Documents: Every tool, template, and piece of H&S advice is verified and backed our qualified H&S specialists, never generated on the fly by AI.

Direct Phone Support: When you call us, you’ll always be able to access a real, qualified H&S specialist for safety advice, or a local Customer Success specialist for software training and help. We have an AI Support Chat option in the system if you’d like to use it to get instant answers on how to use the App or Hub, or you’re welcome to call the team.

Is it better to use HazardCo or an all-in-one system that can also do my invoicing, estimating etc?

Health and safety is too important to leave as just another feature in an all-in-one business tool.

If you’re checking out other systems, ask yourself:

  • Can I set it up and run it myself? That means customising forms and reports, and keeping everything up to date as legislation changes.
  • Can I talk to a qualified H&S specialist for advice, or if something goes wrong on site? Is my crew confident spotting hazards on site? Do they know the right controls to put in place?
  • Does it come with the safety documents I need? That means Site Specific Safety Plans, health and safety policies, and procedures, all kept up to date when the law changes.

If any of these made you hesitate, that’s exactly what HazardCo is built for. We focus on health and safety. You get guided templates we keep up to date, easy to use on site tools and real qualified H&S specialists in your corner when you need them. Keep using your current software for quoting and invoicing. HazardCo helps you keep your crew safe and your business protected.

Who does HazardCo integrate with?

HazardCo connects to Buildxact and Simpro and we have more connections coming. Our goal is to integrate directly with the project management tools you already use, keeping your safety and job documents connected.
