HazardCo acquires Gtee: Simplifying compliance from site safety to post-handover

Good builders know your risk exposure doesn’t end when the last coat of paint goes on,  it shifts.

Once a site is handed over, risk moves from the scaffold to the paperwork: warranty terms, product guarantees, maintenance records, and defect liabilities that follow you for years.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that HazardCo has acquired Gtee.

Gtee is the leading post-handover platform in New Zealand (and growing rapidly in Australia), trusted by over 700 companies and 22,000+ homeowners. The platform connects building companies with homeowners to automate the management of defects, warranties, and ongoing maintenance.

HazardCo has acquired Gtee because health and safety is only one piece of the compliance puzzle that building companies have to deal with every day, especially with legislative changes on the horizon.

By working together, we’re creating even stronger solutions. Both our teams share a deep understanding of residential construction in New Zealand and Australia, allowing us to build systems tailored to the unique challenges you face every day. Like us, Gtee believes great software, backed by true industry experts, makes the real difference.

Gtee just became essential

With the Building Amendment Bill passing its first reading, the New Zealand construction landscape is changing:

Liability will sit proportionately with whoever is at fault, whether that be the building company, council, engineer or a combination of multiple parties.

  • Councils will no longer act as the “last man standing” in defect claims. Mandatory warranties are coming. A 1-year defect warranty and a 10-year structural warranty will soon be required for all consented new builds and $100k+ renovations.

Gtee is designed specifically to solve these exact challenges:

  • Automated Warranties & Maintenance Trails: Gtee collates maintenance info and sends automated reminders to homeowners when tasks are due. If an issue, like unwashed cladding or blocked gutters arises, you have a digital record proving the owner was informed.
  • Digital Defect Manager: With a mandatory 1-year defect period coming, Gtee gives you a simple tool to log, track, and close out post-handover defects.
  • 10,000+ pre-loaded building products: It comes with an extensive library of guarantee and warranty information on more than 10,000 building products, so you never have to waste time searching for guarantee or warranty information, and you know it’s always up to date.

A shared background and mission

Gtee was co-founded by Mark Potter, one of the original co-founders of HazardCo. With a deep background in the building industry, Mark understands firsthand what causes headaches for building companies, and he built Gtee with a clear goal: strip away the paperwork, cut out the fluff, and build simple tools that will actually be used.

Bringing that experience back under one roof means we can make compliance simple, from the site to handover.

If you’re already a Gtee customer, nothing changes day-to-day. Gtee continues running as the platform you know, backed by the exact same team and support crew you rely on.
