But as HazardCo\u2019s Senior Health and Safety Advisor, <\/span><b>Glenn Smith<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, shared in a recent webinar, these visits are not always about catching people out, they\u2019re about ensuring everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Why Regulators Visit<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regulators such as <\/span><b>WorkSafe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><b>SafeWork<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> might visit your site for several reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Routine inspections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as part of general compliance checks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Follow-ups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> after incidents or previous visits<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Complaints<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from the public or nearby residents<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Or even <\/span><b>random drive-bys<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> if a site appears unsafe<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cSometimes they\u2019re just checking in, other times they\u2019re responding to a concern,\u201d Glenn explains. \u201cBut they\u2019re not out to get you &#8211; they just want to make sure people are working safely.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>What To Do When They Arrive<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First rule: <\/span><b>don\u2019t panic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Always welcome the inspector onto your site politely and <\/span><b>check their ID<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to confirm who they are. Regulators are usually easy to identify with branded uniforms, badges, and vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be open and cooperative. \u201cDon\u2019t drop your hammer and bolt, they\u2019re just doing their job,\u201d Glenn says. Provide the documents they ask for, such as your <\/span><b>SWMS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>safety plans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>induction records<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><b>toolbox meeting notes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being organised makes a great first impression. Inspectors are far more comfortable when they can see your systems are in order.
