Two H&S tasks you need to tick off for every new contractor starting on-site
Effective contractor management is a big part of successful project management. There’s a lot for you to think about with every contractor starting on your project, so remember to tick the boxes when it comes to on-site H&S too.
The two big things you need to do with every new contractor before they commence work on your site:
- Site induction: you’re responsible for inducting them to your site, and making sure they know what hazards they may encounter. Having them do this on the HazardCo App means you have a full record online of who was inducted and when, so brief all contractors to download the HazardCo App before turning up to site.
- Check for new hazards: find out what hazards, if any, they’ll introduce to the site and add these to your site hazard board. The easiest way to check you’re covered is to do a quick Site Review or Risk Assessment on the HazardCo App.
Remember, the site induction is your opportunity to set expectations of the contractor to actively participate in the identification and management of risks, and help keep everyone safe on your site. New workers are at a greater risk of injuring themself than your existing crew so a good induction is vital in avoiding injuries and downtime.
You can make H&S even easier for yourself by checking contractors H&S training and their competency in working without risk, before awarding contracts – if they’re on-to-it, it can save you a whole lot of time, and avoid downtime on-site.
New contractors always introduce complexity but with a few quick actions on the HazardCo App, you can cover off your H&S requirements and ensure you’ve played your part in keeping everyone safe on-site.
